Late drama sees Eibar overcome Villarreal

  /  autty

It all happened in the second half as Eibar took on Villarreal and defeated their guests 2-1 thanks to a stoppage time Fabian Orellana goal.

Following a first half where Eibar were the better side without creating more than a few half-chances for Orellana, Kike Garcia and Pape Diop, the Basque team increased the pressure in the second half and took the lead just after the hour mark as Kike Garcia headed home from a corner.

As the clock ticked on, Eibar tried to secure the win by going for a second goal and Kike Garcia struck the crossbar, while Sergio Asenjo was excellent as he denied Orellana and Paulo Oliveira.

But Eibar were then beaten by a long ball over the top of their back line, which substitute Gerard Moreno collected, dinked over Marko Dmitrovic and slammed into the net with just two minutes of normal time remaining.

A frantic end-to-end finish ensued as both sides sought a winning goal, with it eventually coming for the home team as Pablo de Blasis' cross was turned in by Orellana to send Ipurua wild with delight.
