Liverpool flop becomes Lidl's new model and fans can't believe their eyes

Djibril Cisse has signed a huge new modelling deal with Lidl - posing in their surprisingly trendy new range on his official Instagram account.

The 41-year-old former striker has already dedicated six uploads to his new collaboration with his two million followers since the move was announced earlier in the month.

Cisse, who scored 34 goals in the Premier League across his time with Liverpool and QPR, has found a new venture having called time on his career first in 2018 and again in 2021.

Among the range with the French branch of the German international discount retailer are sweaters, trainers, boxer shorts, socks and hats, with the blue, yellow and red colour scheme standing out.

One disappointed fan then complained about a lack of stock by saying: "Damn there are no more Lidl sweaters from Djibril Cisse's collection."

Cisse's fashion choices also stood out during his playing days and he even once made an appearance at Paris Fashion Week with Gigi Hadid.

Cisse is remembered by Liverpool fans for his role in their stunning Istanbul comeback Champions League final victory over AC Milan in 2005.

Having come off the bench with the scores level at 33, Cisse would play his role by scoring his penalty in the shoot-out triumph.

He told FourFourTwo of the game this year: "I took a penalty in the shootout in the final, but was absolutely fine.

"I didn't feel any nerves at all. I actually found it a lot of fun, rather than feeling the pressure.

“Three months earlier I had been in pain with a broken leg, so it was just amazing to be there in Istanbul taking a penalty in front of all those fans.

"Everyone played a part in getting Liverpool the trophy – Stevie G, Vladi Smicer and Jerzy Dudek especially. What a special night."
