Harry Maguire stunned Manchester United supporters with his stellar wing play in their emphatic Europa League victory over Athletic Bilbao.
Maguire marauded down the right wing, twisting and turning past midfielder Mikel Jauregizar, before delivering a excellent floated cross, flicked on by Manuel Ugarte, to set up Casemiro's opener in United's impressive 3-0 win which put them firmly in control of their Europa League semi-final.
The 32-year-old's dribbling skills have seen the Sheffield-born centre back likened to Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, with Maguire dubbed 'Harrydinho' on social media.
United players' appear to be equally shocked at his attacking exploits, with Amad Diallo comparing his teammate, previously nicknamed 'slabhead', to Diego Maradona in an Instagram story with a picture of the centre back merged with the Argentinian legend.
After last night's win, Captain Bruno Fernandes said: 'What a winger! I don't think he even knew he had that in his locker.
'Harry is a much more confident man now. When he is playing, his position is becoming more strong, he is a very good leader and we hope he keeps improving.'
United boss Ruben Amorim added: 'He's a good winger! We all have moments where everything we do in our lives seems wrong, and everything Harry does right now is good for the team.'
The England international shrugged off the comparisons.
'I'm sure there's a few nicknames out there for me,' he joked. 'But no, it's important for me, the win. It was a clinical first half, a professional second half. We had chances to get the fourth, but it's another great victory in the end.'
He added: 'I found myself attacking the back post, I think Garna [Alejandro Garnacho] passed me the ball, it was nice to do a bit of dribbling and put in a great cross.'
'We had a lot of bodies in the box and they must have trusted me to put in the cross. It was a nice feeling and it was a great header in the end.'
Maguire has been one of the success stories of a struggling United side who sit in 14th in the Premier League with just four games remaining.
He hit the headlines for his stunning 121st minute winner in the 5-4 victory over Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League before turning into a winger last night.
It represents a remarkable turnaround for the defender who was on the brink of leaving Old Trafford and was stripped of his captaincy under former boss Erik Ten Hag.
The former Leicester man later admitted that United players need to take their share of the blame for the ‘mess’ at Old Trafford this season because they did not adapt to Ruben Amorim when he replaced Erik ten Hag in November.
'There's been too many games that we've lost, far too inconsistent. It's been a bit of a mess in the middle of the season, the transition period we didn't handle it well enough us players,' he said.
'We didn't take the responsibility well enough from moving manager to manager and we took too long in embedding into new ideas.'
United will face Athletic Bilbao in the second leg at Old Trafford next week, before a likely final against either Tottenham or Bodo/Glimt on May 21 if they can keep hold of their advantage.
