Mainz 05 official announcement
With Mainz 05's successful relegation, the mandatory buyout clause for the 31-year-old Dutch player with Surinamese descent has been officially triggered. He initially joined from La Liga Osasuna on loan this season.
Mainz 05 sporting director Nico Bungert said: "Becker joined the team at the last moment of the winter window and quickly integrated perfectly into the team. With our successful relegation, we can now confirm that he will continue to play for Mainz 05 in the future. We are very happy to continue to keep this experienced, fast and extremely capable player in front of goal. He has proven in the second half of the season that he can really help the team, not only in terms of directly participating in goals on many occasions."
Becker himself stated: "I am very much looking forward to staying at Mainz 05 after the end of the season. The whole team accepted me, coach Fischer and some members of the coaching staff, whom I already knew during my time in Berlin.
The city, the club, the surrounding atmosphere, especially the fans, all have the football passion that I value very much. I already feel very familiar here. Who knows how far our common future can go."
