Manchester United are set to sell midfield prospect Zidane Iqbal to FC Utrecht, according to reports.

Iqbal has come through the ranks at Old Trafford, and made his senior debut in a Champions League game against Young Boys in December 2021.

However, that has proved to be his only appearance for the first team, and having failed to make a breakthrough he is now on the brink of being moved on.

United have agreed an £850,000 fee with Dutch outfit Utrecht, and the 20-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year deal, as reported by The Athletic.

The report states United have agreed a significant sell-on clause to be included in his contract.

Despite not playing in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag, Iqbal did make the bench on several occasions last term, suggesting he was not far away from making his top-flight bow.

However, he did not get his opportunity for the Red Devils, with Ten Hag preferring his more senior options instead.

Iqbal has three caps for Iraq, and had United fans pleading for him to play more after his performance against Russia in March went viral on social media.

These calls fell on deaf ears, though, with the youngster now closing in on a permanent move away from Old Trafford for less than £1m.

Utrecht finished seventh in the Eredivisie last season, picking up 54 points from their 34 matches.
