According to Marca, Athletic Club's pre-season preparations begin in a week, coinciding with Edin Terzic's first season in charge. Terzic has already outlined his squad plans and discussed individual playing prospects with each player. The club has begun acting to complete the first wave of departures before July 6.

With an excess of first-team players, several have been placed on the departure list. Athletic Club aims to trim the squad size before pre-season medical examinations. The club is open to offers for players in all positions, and any player deemed non-essential to Terzic's plans may leave.
The goalkeeper position is a prime example. Agirrezabala has stronger market appeal than Padilla and has attracted interest from multiple clubs. He was loaned to Valencia last season, where he suffered a meniscus injury requiring surgery and missed significant playing time.
His contract runs until 2027, with a possible two-year extension clause. Athletic Club included a buyout clause in last season's loan deal with Valencia, which the Spanish club did not activate. Now the club will consider either a permanent sale or a deal structured with performance bonuses, future resale percentages, and other conditions—provided the asking price aligns with potential suitors' valuations.
