Chelsea are in the market for a new attacking midfielder after Christopher Nkunku picked up a knee injury which is set to keep him out of action for a few months

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Chelsea are in the market for a replacement for Christopher Nkunku, who is set to be out for an 'extended period' after picking up a knock. The 25-year-old forward suffered a knee injury against Borussia Dortmund during the Blues' pre-season tour of the United States.

Nkunku has since undergone an operation and he's now begun rehabilitation with the club's medical department. It's believed that the France international will be out of action for several months, handing Chelsea a major blow to their hopes of securing a Champions League qualification place this term.

"He was very important for us. Now it's about not thinking too much about the injuries and being positive about when he can be back with us as soon as possible.

"We are working in the market also, trying to find a solution, maybe short term, medium and long term to find the right profile for the team."

It's believed that the Crystal Palace star, who reportedly has a £35million release clause, would be keen on a move to west London, but nothing is advanced just yet. The second player on the Blues' radar is Mohammed Kudus from Ajax.
