McManaman slams AC Milan for first half performance in UCL semi-final

Steve McManaman has slammed AC Milan for their poor start to their Champions League semi-final against rivals Inter.

Inter raced into a 2-0 lead at the San Siro and had a penalty decision overturned after they had too hit the post in what was a frantic first period.

Former Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko opened the scoring after eight minutes before ex-Manchester United and Arsenal man Henrikh Mkhitaryan doubled Inter's lead after just 11 minutes.

Inter looked like scoring every time they went forward in the game, and could have been further ahead by the break as the theoretical hosts struggled.

McManaman criticised AC's defending for both goals, but was keen to praise Inter for their performance as they seemed to already put one foot into the final.

'Two of the Premier League old boys have come back to make their mark on this semi-final,' he said. 'Like the parting of the red sea it opens up for Mkhitaryan to stride into. Glorious freedom and just smashes it in the back of the net. What a start for Inter Milan.'

'Milan are still trying to adjust into this game, they look shell-shocked at times.'
