Miguel Gutierrez puts Marcelo in trouble

It was only their first real pre-season friendly of the summer, but Real Madrid's loss to Rangers on Sunday already has Carlo Ancelotti knowing that he has a job on his hands.

The Italian is now more aware than ever before that he desperately needs to get the rest of his players back into training, as Rangers looked a lot more prepared than Los Blancos.

A lot of the issues, though, aren't new and don't offer many reasons to be optimistic.

Marcelo and Isco don't seem to have a place in this Real Madrid team and that was seen in the first half. The Brazilian wore the armband, but his decline was evident again.

He'll need more time to show what he has to offer, but his problems were clear to see. He lost the ball, lacked rhythm and offered very little in attack. Isco wasn't much different.

When your best player is your goalkeeper, it's clear that you have things that need to be resolved. Andriy Lunin was Real Madrid's standout player on the day, and he won't be near the starting XI once Thibaut Courtois has returned. The good news is that there's a backup option for if and when the Belgian needs it.

Rodrygo Goes is coming into an important year as a Real Madrid player. He wants to be one of the players to accompany Karim Benzema in attack, and he has shown signs that suggest he might be one of the men to line up alongside the No.9.

Rangers were far better than Real Madrid and Steven Gerrard's side were well drilled. They were quick, direct and caused problems for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid were better in the second half and Miguel Gutierrez made a difference once he was introduced. Having impressed Zinedine Zidane last season, he has started life under Ancelotti well. He has the talent, personality and energy needed to make a difference.
