Mirandes stun Sevilla to reach the Copa del Rey quarter-finals

The Copa del Rey quarter-final draw will take place on Friday and there will be one team out of the eight that isn't in the top division of Spanish football.

That team is Mirandes, the 10th placed team in the second tier, who defeated Sevilla 3-1 at home on Thursday night.

Matheus Aias' seventh minute goal, as he wriggled free under tight pressure, put Mirandes ahead and they never looked back, with the Brazilian adding a second just before the half hour mark with the help of a deflection.

Even though Alvaro Pena saw a penalty saved by Tomas Vaclik in the second half, it didn't matter and the crowd at the Estadio Municipal de Anduva could well and truly celebrate with Alvaro Rey's goal five minutes from time.

Nolito pulled one back for Sevilla, but it was nothing more than a consolation for a Sevilla side whose wait for a first Copa del Rey since 2010 goes on.
