Monchi: Roma matured me

Monchi has looked back on his time at Roma with gratitude, thanking them for giving him “balance” in his life and helping him become “more mature”.

Monchi has since returned to Sevilla, where he is aiming to emulate the achievements of his first spell at the club, his dealings in the transfer market helping the Spanish side win five Europa Leagues.

He previously complained he had been “kicked out” by Roma last season, but he has now revealed that his experience in the Italian capital made him a better person.

“I worked really hard at Roma, but I have to thank them for the opportunity they gave me and the experience,” he told Estadio Deportivo.

“I’m a person who has a lot of passion, but it’s true that I found some balance with them.

“Before, I was more visceral. I took worse to criticism, I always lived with a tired face.

“Now I suffer when we lose, I feel really bad, but I have learnt that every day must be the same, even if you win or lose.

“It was important for me and for the club. We could transform the results into a funnel, we stop the development.

“I am more mature; I know how to live better with the defeats and the victories. I am more open, less obsessed with success.”
