Monterrey officially announced that the team has signed former Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda on a two-year contract.

Almeyda previously worked in Mexico's Liga MX from 2015 to 2018, when he was the head coach of Guadalajara. Last summer, Almeyda signed with Sevilla, but was dismissed by the team in March due to poor results.

Monterrey wrote: "Club de Fútbol Monterrey announces that it has reached an agreement with Argentine coach Matías Almeyda to lead the first team, with both parties signing a two-year contract."

"Almeyda is a coach known for his character, empathy, and leadership. He has a clear tactical system and implements it on the field with high standards and firm conviction. Under Almeyda's leadership, the Monterrey team will strive to compete at the highest level and achieve the best results that fans expect and deserve."

Previously, there were reports that Club América also wanted to invite Almeyda, but he ultimately chose to join Monterrey.
