According to the latest report from Mundo Deportivo, the new Barcelona president will not take office until July 1, and until then, Jordi Cardoner will remain in his role alongside five other board members.

According to reports, although the election for FC Barcelona’s presidency will be held on March 15, the winning candidate will not officially assume office until July 1, as clearly stipulated in Article 54 of the club’s statutes: “If the election process is triggered by the natural expiration of the previous board’s term—as is the case currently—the newly elected board shall assume office on July 1 following the election, and the outgoing board members shall simultaneously step down.”
This arrangement will remain unchanged regardless of whether Laporta is re-elected or another candidate who has already declared their intention to run is elected. According to Article 35.4 of the statutes, if at least one-third of the board members remain in place when the board is dissolved, it is not necessary to appoint an interim management committee.
Current First Vice President Rafael Yuste will remain in office during the election period together with at least five other board members, meeting the minimum requirement of six members, all selected by the current board. Laporta has until February 23 to resign, after which candidate proposals can be submitted.
Those running against Laporta include Elena Fort, Joan Soler, Xavi Puig, Josep-Ignasi Macià, Àngel Riudalbas, and Sisco Pujol.
Former vice president for economic affairs Eduard Romeu has expressed his willingness to return, while the future of treasurer Ferran Olivé remains uncertain; the two do not see eye to eye, and a potentially significant detail is that Olivé did not attend yesterday’s meeting.
As acting president, Yuste has the authority to make important club decisions, unlike an interim management committee. Secretary Josep Cubells, Miquel Camps, and Javier Barbán will remain in office alongside Yuste.
Regardless of whether Laporta wins the election, Olivé will continue to serve on the interim board. As treasurer, he is responsible for finalizing the financial accounts for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
