Vinicius to miss El Clasico after receiving four-match ban for red card against Villarreal
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been handed a four-match suspension following his red card against Villarreal, ruling him out of the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona on October 25, according to MARCA.
The Brazilian was sent off during Saturday's match after pulling Nathan Saliba's hair in the build-up to a goal that was subsequently disallowed following a VAR review.
The Spanish Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee imposed a two-match ban for violent conduct away from the ball, along with an additional two-match suspension for protesting against the referee after his dismissal.
Referee Isidro Diaz de Mera reported that Vinicius approached him with an aggressive attitude following the red card and had to be restrained by his teammates.
Real Madrid appealed the decision, arguing that the contact with Saliba's hair was accidental and occurred during an active passage of play. The club also maintained that Vinicius's protests should not constitute a separate disciplinary offence.
However, the committee rejected the appeal, concluding that video evidence supported the referee's report and that the two incidents warranted separate punishments.
As a result, Vinicius will miss Real Madrid's upcoming matches against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing and Valencia. He is not expected to return until after the November international break.
The Brazilian subsequently apologised to his teammates and supporters on social media for leaving his side with ten men.
