On this day in 2017 - Ronaldo became the first person to score 100 goals in European club competition
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid took control of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich with a 2-1 victory at the Allianz Arena in 2017.
The Portugal international netted the 99th and 100th European goals of his illustrious career.

On this day in 2005 - Crowd flares at the Milan derby created one of the most iconic images
Internazionale's Champions League quarter-final against their city rivals Milan was abandoned on this day in 2005 amid violent scenes.
In the first leg Milan, as home team, won 2-0 with goals from Stam and Shevchenko. However Shevchenko put Milan 1-0 up on the 30 minute mark in the 'return' leg to all but guarantee their passage into a second final in three years but the drama wasn't to end there.
Cambiasso thought he'd given his side a chance in the 72nd minute with a headed goal but it was disallowed for a push and after showing dissent to the referee he was booked.
That moment sparked angry Inter fans to set off flares and them, along with plastic bottles and even umbrellas onto the pitch behind Dida's goal.
As chaos rained down from the stands ref Markus Merk delayed play for 20 minutes. The delay birthed one of the most infamous pictures in football as Rui Costa and Marco Materazzi stood, the defender leaning on his opponents shoulder, watching the mayhem.

On this day in 1948 - World Cup-winning manager Marcello Lippi was born
On 12 April 1948, World Cup-winning manager Marcello Lippi was born in Viareggio, Italy. After a lengthy and distinguished career as a player in Serie A, he made his real mark as a manager, winning five Scudettos and one Champions League title with Juventus before taking the Italian national team to World Cup victory in 2006.
In 2004, the Italian Football Federation appointed Lippi as manager of the national team, replacing Giovanni Trappatoni.
He helmed the Azzurri to the 2006 World Cup title in Germany and retired three days later, handing the reins over to Livorno manager Roberto Donadoni. But after a disappointing Euro 2008 performance, the Azzurri sacked Donadoni and re-appointed Lippi, who retired again after Italy failed to get out of the group stage at the 2010 World Cup.
On this day in 1992 - Man Utd won their first League Cup
On 12 April 1992, Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest in the League Cup Final. It was the first League Cup for the club and the first piece of silverware for Ryan Giggs, who later became the most decorated British player in history.
Played before a crowd of almost 77,000 at Wembley Stadium, it was closely-fought affair, with Giggs providing the assist for the day's only goal, scored in the 14th minute by United forward Brian McClair.
It was only the third domestic trophy for manager Alex Ferguson, after the 1990 FA Cup and the 1990 FA Charity Shield (the latter shared with Liverpool), but he had also won the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 1991.
