Out of shape: Boniface returns to Bremen with almost 10kg overweight

Less than three months after knee surgery, 25-year-old Boniface has returned to Werder Bremen.

After completing his rehabilitation at Bayer Leverkusen, he returned to the training ground for the first time on March 31, local time, but his obvious weight issues sparked concern from the club and fans. This problem has actually existed since he joined Werder Bremen on loan last September, and now the situation seems even more serious. According to Bild, the striker is currently almost 10 kilograms overweight.

Werder Bremen also responded quickly. Peter Niemeyer, head of the club's professional department, said: "We are aware of his current physical condition. He must now start to improve his physical fitness, and we will provide assistance. But the most important responsibility lies with him."

In fact, even at his peak, Boniface was known for his preference for high-calorie diets, and this habit has not changed to this day. The club has repeatedly reminded him to maintain the dietary habits that a professional player should have, but with little success.

Ironically, in the first half of the season, Boniface was troubled by a knee injury (with no goals scored to date), but now the problem has become his weight.

Niemeyer said: "His surgical recovery is better than expected, his knee is stable, and the recovery process is smooth. But his current physical condition is not up to standard and he cannot play in the Bundesliga for the time being. He himself still hopes to be able to help the team this season, and we are doing our best to help him achieve this goal."
