Just over two weeks on from clinching the Champions League, Luis Enrique's treble-winning team made light work of Atleti, who were reduced to 10 men late on, in their opening Group B match.
Fabian Ruiz gave PSG, who were without the injured Ousmane Dembele, a 19th-minute lead at the Rose Bowl with a drilled finish from the edge of the area.
Vitinha doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time, striding onto Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's pass before calmly slotting beyond Jan Oblak.
Having teed up both of PSG's first-half goals, Kvaratskhelia almost got in on the act shortly after the restart, but Oblak tipped the winger's strike onto the crossbar.
Julian Alvarez thought he had dragged Atleti back into it when he arrowed home from a cute angle, only for the goal to be disallowed after a VAR check for a foul in the build-up.
Clement Lenglet's second yellow card further dented Atleti's hopes of a comeback, and after Alexander Sorloth blazed over with the goal gaping, those chances were dashed completely when Senny Mayulu slammed in PSG's third.
There was time for one more cruel blow for Atleti deep in stoppage time, when Robin Le Normand was adjudged to have handled, with substitute Lee Kang-in stepping up to take the penalty and add further gloss to a resounding win.

In the wake of PSG's stunning Champions League success, Luis Enrique said the target was world domination, and on Sunday's evidence, they look well primed to make that ambition a reality.
Both of these teams were featuring in their maiden Club World Cup matches, while it was just the second competitive meeting overall. Atleti beat PSG 2-1 in the league phase of the 2024-25 Champions League. This meeting could not have been more different, though.
PSG, who have won their last three games by an aggregate score of 12-0, finished 2024-25 as Europe's second-highest scorers, behind Barcelona, and that attacking quality was on show as Luis Enrique's men accumulated 2.21 expected goals from 16 attempts, while Atleti were limited to just five shots, with just one of those on target.
