Match Report

Diego Simeone's side went behind early, but goals from Julian Alvarez, David Hancko and Alexander Sorloth gave the visitors a two-goal cushion early in the second half.

Substitute Ricardo Pepi pulled one back for PSV late on but despite applying plenty of late pressure, the Dutch side were unable to force an equaliser.

Forward Guus Til had put the hosts ahead in the 10th minute, rolling the ball into an empty net after Couhaib Driouech raced clear down the left and unselfishly squared it to give his team-mate a tap-in.

But Driouech missed a great chance to double the lead. First he skewed his shot wide, and then bizarrely passed up an even better chance as he tried to play in an offside team-mate rather than going for goal from only eight yards out with only Jan Oblak to beat.

Atletico levelled through Alvarez after Giuliano Simeone robbed the seemingly oblivious Yarek Gasiorowski as PSV played a goal-kick short and the defender was caught out.

Hancko reacted quickest to slot the ball home when Nahuel Molina's shot was pushed out to put Atletico in front shortly after the break and they extended their advantage when an unmarked Sorloth headed home Pablo Barrios' cross.

With five minutes to go, Pepi gave PSV hope when he turned the ball in at the back post from a corner and Peter Bosz's men had the chance to equalise but defender Armando Obispo was unable to force the ball home from close range.

The result put Atletico seventh in the table with PSV dropping to 19th place.
