Paraguayan Legend Chilavert: Maradona didn't win one percent of what Messi has

Jose Luis Chilavert doesn't think there's any comparison between Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.

The latter's World Cup success is often held against the current Barcelona captain as a stick to beat him with, but Chilavert believes Messi's trophy cabinet speaks for itself.

"Messi is the best player on the planet without a doubt," he told Radio Rivadavia.

"Maradona didn't win one percent of what Messi has.

"The Argentines have to thank Messi for choosing Argentina [and not Spain], it's a pleasure to watch him play."

Chilavert and Maradona have had a troubled relationship for a long time now, which may play a part in the Paraguayan's opinion of the former Argentina coach.

"Maradona disrespected me and I responded," he added, remembering a meeting in their playing days between Velez Sarsfield and Boca Juniors, a game in which Chilavert scored a freekick.

"I told him that there were anti-doping controls and made him angry."
