Perez Burrull: It's not a penalty on Cunha, it's not a stamp worth going to VAR over

In what will surely be a moment talked about repeatedly in Madrid in the coming days, Atletico were awarded a penalty in the derby after a VAR check ruled Jesus Vallejo had stepped on Matheus Cunha, bringing him down inside the box.

However, Radio MARCA's resident referee analyst disagrees strongly with the call.

"It's not a penalty and the stamp isn't enough to go to VAR over," said Perez Burrull.

"The contact is minimal, he barely catches him, it's not enough to bring a player down.

"Cunha had no chance of reaching the ball and he's on his way down already when [Vallejo] catches him."

Perez Burrull understands why Martinez Munuera called Soto Grado to check the footage, but thinks there wasn't enough in the incident to be worthy of going back on or calling a penalty.
