Quagliarella scores outrageous backheel volley goal for Sampdoria

Fabio Quagliarella capped off Sampdoria's shock 3-0 win over Napoli with an exquisite backheel volley that fans have already declared goal of the season.

The 35-year-old refused to celebrate the stunning strike due to a long-held love of the club he played for in 2009/10, scoring 11 goals in 37 games.

Yet the club's fans were definitely celebrating after Sampdoria secured their first win of the season in their second game, having lost their opener.

Gregoire Defrel's first-half double had put Sampdoria in control before the veteran's divine intervention.

After an initial free-kick had been cleared, a mid-height cross was swung back into the box and, without hesitation, Quagliarella contorted his body to flick home into the far corner with his right foot.

Supporters were also quick to praise the quality of the volley, with on claiming: 'You'll be hard pressed to find one better than that!

'Just give him the goal of the year award now...'

Another went even further, suggesting it was up with the best strikes of all time.

Fabio Delgotit said: 'Best goal of season or ever?'

Despite coming into the twilight of his years, Quagliarella has proved a hit for Sampdoria in his second spell at the club.

he has recorded 49 goals in 139 games across those two spells.

He first played for the Serie A side in 2006/2007, moving on to Udiense after a year, before returning in 2016.
