Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane have made history together in the Champions League and now Real Madrid need them more than ever.
The two central defenders will try to form a wall in Istanbul as Los Blancos take on Galatasaray with their European future on the line.
Their Champions League record says it all: 36 matches played together, 26 wins, nine draws and just one defeat.
Ramos and Varane isn't just one of the great Real Madrid defensive partnerships, but arguably one of the best Europe has ever seen.
They first played alongside each other in the Champions League on November 22 2011 during a 6-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Ramos was just 25 years old at the time and Varane was still only 18.
Fundamentals
The solidity and security that Ramos and Varane bring to the Real Madrid is evident when they're not there.
In the only two games they played during last season's Champions League, the pair only played together twice - in the only two victories for Los Blancos (against Roma home and away).
The defensive pairing wasn't there in other major defeats like the 2-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in 2016 and the 3-1 home defeat to Juventus in 2018.
Only Atletico Madrid have managed to beat a Real Madrid team with Ramos and Varane in the Champions League.
The 2-1 first leg victory at the Estadio Vicente Calderon in the 2016/17 semi-finals. Los Blancos went on to win the return leg 3-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Now, Ramos and Varane are back and ready to reunite in the Champions League once more as Los Blancos look to salvage themselves against Galatasaray.
