Marcus Rashford is closing in on a summer exit from Manchester United to join Barcelona but the Spanish champions can not register him with La Liga as things stand

Marcus Rashford will be unveiled as a new Barcelona player on Wednesday but the La Liga club will need to offload players in order to register the England forward.

Rashford, 27, is on the verge of finalising a dream move to the Nou Camp after being given the green light to leave Manchester United. He will initially join Barca on loan, although the Spanish giants do have a £26m option to make the move permanent.

Rashford completed his medical in Spain on Monday as he prepares to seal a second loan move in as many transfer windows. He is due to train with his new team-mates on Tuesday for the first time, before Barca's official unveiling on Wednesday.

However, Barcelona are not currently able to register Rashford with La Liga as things stand. Sky Sports have confirmed the issue, which has been a recurring one for Barcelona in recent years as a result of their financial woes.

Barcelona are currently working to resolve the issue, which will likely require them to offload players either permanently or on loan before the new season and bring in some revenue. Interestingly, Barca have agreed to take on Rashford's full £350k-a-week salary, a key factor in United agreeing to his loan switch.

The Spanish champions are confident that they will be able to do enough to register Rashford. Barca kick off the new La Liga campaign away to RCD Mallorca on Saturday 16 August.

Rashford spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa and will arrive at the Nou Camp off the back of a fine spell with United's Premier League rivals, who helped him rediscover his form.

The player's desire to move to the Nou Camp has been well documented and he is looking forward to becoming the first English player to appear for the Spanish giants since Gary Lineker.

With Rashford now effectively gone, United will turn their attention to offloading the other four players who definitely have no future under Ruben Amorim.

Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are all available for transfer and training alone. Garnacho has been linked with Chelsea and Napoli while Antony is understood to be keen on a return to Real Betis, where he flourished on loan last term.
