According to Sport, Yann Diomande has been one of the standout performers at this FIFA World Cup. The Ivorian midfielder has attracted attention from several top European clubs with his outstanding talent and technical ability. Liverpool, managed by Andoni Iraola, is among the clubs monitoring his situation.

The Leganés Opportunity
Diomande is not prolific in front of goal, with 13 goals in 36 appearances, but he is an impactful forward who has contributed 10 assists. Known for his pace, direct play, and ability to break down defenses, the 19-year-old shows tremendous potential with room to develop further. His path to success was not straightforward, as several clubs rejected him early in his career.
He had trials at Bournemouth, Chelsea, Rangers, Olympiacos, Crystal Palace, and in MLS, but none offered him a contract despite impressing some observers. During this difficult period, he received encouragement from former acquaintances. "You're really good, kid," one message read. This period was particularly challenging after losing a close family member to a tragic accident.
"Even the MLS academy didn't want me. I don't know why—nobody gave me a reason. The adults controlled everything. They just kept taking me around Europe, and everyone said no. My visa expired. My dream ended. They sent me back to Africa, and we cried together. You were the one who never stopped believing in me. Weeks later, I signed with Leganés, and we shed different tears," Diomande recalled of that difficult time.
The Dream Realized
"That was just weeks after my Leganés debut. Who debuts at the highest level at 18? It was incredible. A dream come true," he reflected. Shortly after, tragedy struck when he learned of a family member's death. Despite this personal loss, Diomande made the most of his opportunity at Leganés, and six months later transferred to RB Leipzig for €20 million.
His contract with the German club runs until 2030, and his market value has risen to €90 million—a €70 million increase in just one year. However, RB Leipzig has set his asking price at €100 million and will not entertain lower offers. While Florentino Pérez's primary target remains another player, if that deal proves impossible, Diomande's impressive emergence could prompt Real Madrid's president to pursue an alternative plan.
