Real Madrid have stepped up their interest in Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports.

Los Blancos have been long-time admirers of the 22-year-old, who is also being monitored by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Tchouameni’s contract with Monaco runs until 2024, but he is open to a move away to join one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Marca have reported that Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat travelled to the principality this week ‘to hold discussions’ with the Frenchman’s representatives over a potential deal.

The Spanish outlet adds that the Ligue 1 side have confirmed Tchouameni’s price tag at between €80million (£66.5m) and €100million (£83m).

Despite Real Madrid’s interest, the report claims that Chelsea and Manchester United still lead the race for the midfielder and that the Blues have already made contact with his agent Jonathan Kebe.

Having been named Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year in 2020/21, Tchouameni has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Monaco this season and scored twice.

The 22-year-old made his senior debut for the France national team in September last year and picked up a Nations League winner’s medal the following month.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in signing him, but are expected to prioritise a move for Paul Pogba.
