Real Sociedad and Athletic Club presidents Jokin Aperribay and Aitor Elizegui will be at the RFEF today to negotiate moving the Copa final from 18 April to 30 May.

The presidents of the two clubs who will contest this year's Copa del Rey are hoping that the final can be rescheduled in the ake of developments in Spain due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Real Sociedad's Jokin Aperribay and Athletic Club's Aitor Elizegui are due to hold a meeting with RFEF president Luis Rubiales in Las Rozas later today to discuss moving the date of the final, which is due to take place at La Cartuja in Seville on 18 April.

Both Aperribay and Elizegui are against playing the Copa del Rey final behind closed doors. La Real and Athletic, two of the Basque Country's most historic clubs have never met in a final before and that they have both made it to the Copa final is a massive event for their fabns. Rubiales is also against the idea. In any case, it is possible that Rubiales won't be around to hand over the trophy to the winners - he will be obliged to resign from his post in mid-April if proposals to call elections are approved today.

The RFEF will inform Athletic and La Real about the situation regarding coronavirus and the protocols is will be implementing. It's highly likely that the decision to put back the Copa del Rey final will be made today. At the moment there is no definitive date, but there is a possibility the final could be played at the end of May, on Saturday 30th, one week after the end of LaLiga.
