Paraguay referee Díaz de Vivar explained why he gave Messi & Medel red cards in his referee report after Argentina's 2-1 win over Chile in Copa America.

Against Chile in the Copa America third-place play-off, Lionel Messi was sent off after an incident with Gary Medel.

In the referee report after the match, the Paraguayan wrote down his reasons for showing red cards to Messi and Medel:

"Messi: Use language/gestures offensive, insulting or humiliating; For confronting the opponent, in an incident when the ball was no longer in play, giving a strong blow with the shoulder to the opponent."

"Medel: Use language/gestures offensive, insulting or humiliating; For confronting the opponent, in an incident when the ball was no longer in play. Brutally beat with the chest and arm the opponent to be contained by their peers."
