According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Barcelona sporting director Deco has identified Liverpool forward Luis Díaz as the club’s top target for the upcoming summer transfer window. The goal is to inject the team with mature experience and attacking flair, but this would require over €80 million in funds.
Despite Barcelona currently celebrating their title win, Deco has quietly begun planning for next season and is targeting reinforcements for the team’s weakened wings. Colombian international Luis Díaz is the first choice thanks to his top-league experience, dribbling skills, and typical South American flair, but Liverpool’s high asking price and the complexity of negotiations could be major obstacles.
Deco pointed out that Barcelona is currently over-reliant on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, and urgently needs a distinctive and explosive winger. The 28-year-old Díaz has contributed 41 goals and 23 assists over the past three seasons for Liverpool. His maturity and Champions League experience are considered crucial for strengthening the squad.
Although other targets like Nico Williams were previously on the list, Díaz is now the higher priority. However, Liverpool, having recently lost key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, are taking a firm stance. Barcelona must rely on the “1:1 financial rule” to raise over €80 million, making the deal significantly more challenging.
Besides boosting the attack, Deco stressed the importance of retaining key players to avoid instability. Changes to the goalkeeper and striker positions may also be on the table, with the aim of building a title-contending squad with a balanced age structure for new manager Hansi Flick.
