Santi on the slide: Giménez’s transfer value plummets amid Milan misery

What started well has taken a sharp turn for the worse for Santiago Giménez. Early in 2025, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by signing with AC Milan. But his Italian adventure has fallen well short of expectations - and the fallout is showing clearly in his market value.

After tearing it up in the Eredivisie, Milan went all‑in on Giménez for 2025 - a gamble that simply hasn’t paid off. He arrived in Serie A with momentum, but his impact slowly faded. A mix of inconsistency and injuries has defined his time in Italy, and the consequences have hit his market valuation hard.

Giménez’s decline in market value

Giménez’s value has taken a significant dip in 2025. According to Transfermarkt, he ended 2024 valued at €36 million ($42 million). His 65 goals for Feyenoord had placed him squarely on the radar of Europe’s top leagues, with Serie A ultimately becoming his landing spot.

Milan’s front office - now led by Zlatan Ibrahimović - fell in love with Giménez’s profile and ended up shelling out more than €30 million ($35 million) for him last February. Santi was expected to become the Rossoneri’s go‑to scorer. Instead, the opposite happened.

He actually started brightly at Milan: three goals in his first five matches. It looked like the best was yet to come, but soon he hit a slump. Giménez went 11 straight matches without finding the net.

Things got worse in the 2025-26 season. He has yet to score a league goal and has only appeared on the scoresheet once - in a Coppa Italia match in September. After that, an ankle injury gradually wore him down until he finally stopped in October to recover. He’s now rehabbing after undergoing surgery and is expected to return sometime between mid‑January and February.

What is Giménez’s market value now?

The pitch - and the market - can be unforgiving. By June, Giménez’s Transfermarkt valuation had fallen to €30 million; four months later, he dropped another €5 million ($5.9 million). He’ll close out 2025 with a valuation of just €20 million ($23.5 million). That’s a nearly 50% decline in a single year, and unless his form rebounds once he’s back from injury, the slide may not be over.
