Scholes: Bellingham not suited for No. 10 role, he's a box-to-box No. 8

Commentator Scholes believes Bellingham is not suited to play as a No. 10; he is a No. 8 who excels at making forward runs. Furthermore, the draw against Ghana showed that in matches where England dominates possession for extended periods, Rice and Anderson should not be on the field simultaneously.

Scholes stated, "The coach has built a squad that relies on physical superiority to overwhelm opponents.

However, at crucial stages of a match, the team definitely needs a player with quick thinking and excellent link-up play. Last night's game was a prime example of the opposite.

The midfield personnel combination was completely illogical. In matches where we dominate possession for extended periods, Rice and Anderson should never be on the field at the same time.

Bellingham is not suited to play as a No. 10 attacking midfielder; he is a No. 8 midfielder who excels at making forward runs.

A No. 10 player can bring the whole team to life and produce fluid, beautiful passing combinations, which is not Bellingham's characteristic. He cannot deliver the kind of creative passes in front of the penalty area; his primary role is a No. 8.

His strength lies in making late runs from deep to attack the box, and his ball control is sufficient to support this attacking style.

Many people now simply view the No. 10 position as merely running back and forth, but that is not the case. A true No. 10 player can orchestrate the entire team, linking attack and defense together, and this team currently lacks such a player.

Even against weaker opponents, you will eventually miss these types of players—technical players who can create surprises and scoring opportunities on their own."
