According to Spain's "Sport" newspaper, Barcelona Atletic's 18-year-old goalkeeper Iker Rodríguez will extend his contract until 2029, having become one of La Masia's most promising young talents.

"Sport" has learned that Iker Rodríguez will renew his contract with Barcelona tomorrow, with the deal running until June 2029. The newspaper had previously reported that Barcelona and the player had reached an agreement on the extension. As planned, the player will sign on Friday, confirming the club's confidence in his future.

Barcelona's sporting management has closely monitored his development, believing he has the potential to become a reliable goalkeeper in the future. His performances for Barcelona Atletic this season have further reinforced this assessment.

An Impressive Start to the Season

Iker has played in all eight of Barcelona Atletic's league matches, conceding only four goals. This is particularly noteworthy for a goalkeeper still in his youth and making his first sustained appearance in the reserve team.

The young goalkeeper has recorded six clean sheets. Notably, he did not concede a goal in the first four matches of the new season—the first time Barcelona Atletic has achieved such a start since the 2022/23 season.

Beyond the statistics, Barcelona also values his technical qualities highly. He possesses excellent reflexes, consistent performances, and outstanding distribution skills—all key requirements in Barcelona's tactical system.

The Sabadell-born player joined La Masia at a young age and has progressed through the academy to become an important player in Hansi Flick's reserve squad. His development has also earned him opportunities to train with the first team and even appear on a matchday squad.

Investing in the Future

This contract extension reflects Barcelona's commitment to retaining one of the most promising goalkeepers from its academy. The club has high expectations for Iker Rodríguez, while recognizing that he still needs time to develop and gain experience.

Currently, the first team has Joan García and the experienced Szczęsny. The Polish goalkeeper's contract runs until June 2027, with his future at the club beyond that date still uncertain.

In this context, Iker's development becomes crucial. Barcelona hopes he will continue to improve within the club's system and compete for a first-team opportunity when the time is right.

Tomorrow's signing marks an important milestone in his development. Iker Rodríguez will remain at Barcelona until 2029, securing the club a goalkeeper for years to come.
