Sport: Three x-factors emerge for El Clásico

  /  autty

Sport highlights that this Sunday's Clásico holds plenty of suspense. Real Madrid's recent resurgence in form makes the match even more compelling, and although Barcelona stumbled in Madrid, they are still considered the favorites.

In matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid, all pre-game attention typically falls on the star players, but it's often the "overlooked ones" who ultimately become the X-factors that decide the game.

These factors, not in the spotlight, could play a crucial role:

The "Invisible" Espart

He just delivered a defensive masterclass against Kvaratskhelia in Paris, surprising everyone. This time, he played as a right-back. He previously had a strong influence on the left flank, but against PSG, he put on another spectacular performance, even scoring a goal after switching to the other side.

In the Clásico, he will likely continue in this position, as Kounde is only barely fit to play. Real Madrid will find it difficult to contain his omnipresence, because for Espart, position and role are not fixed: he is nominally a full-back, but his involvement in attack extends to the attacking midfield zone.

"It's like taking a university entrance exam; Espart has faced the ultimate test this week to enter the first team. The first exam, against PSG, he passed with flying colors. The second will be even harder: in the Clásico, he will likely have to mark the formidable Diomande, one of Real Madrid's most important attacking threats right now," said Bruno Alemany, head of the "Play Fútbol" program on Cadena SER.

"He just contained Kvaratskhelia on Tuesday. Whether he can contain Real Madrid's Ivorian player Diomande will be one of the keys to the Clásico."

Valverde: Where to Play, What to Do

All signs currently point to Valverde playing on the right wing. There's an interesting phenomenon with the Uruguayan player: he often looks glum when he can't play as a double pivot, but his best performances almost always come on the flanks, especially as a wing-back—precisely the position he dislikes.

Against Barcelona, he will likely play as a winger. Mourinho wants balance, and the Uruguayan can provide a lot of running on the wing. His aggression both on and off the ball is crucial, and his long-range shots are always a threat.

The downside is that Valverde is the type of player who is better at making sudden appearances than maintaining a consistent position, but Barcelona must pay extra attention to his speed. On the opposite side, there's Cancelo, a full-back with top-tier attacking ability but often lapses in defense.

"Mourinho can play Valverde in three different positions: full-back, defensive midfielder, or right winger. That alone is enough to give Flick a headache before the match. Because the Uruguayan's final position will completely change Real Madrid's game plan," said Bruno Alemany, Cadena SER journalist and commentator.

"If he plays as a full-back, we'll see a more offensive Real Madrid. If he plays as a winger, Real Madrid will be more likely to press in the opponent's half and disrupt Barcelona's build-up. If he plays as a double pivot, Mourinho will revert to a more conservative setup, aiming for theoretical defensive security."

Adeyemi, the Game Changer from the Bench

All indications suggest he will start on the bench, but he is the type of player who can change a game after coming on. The German's speed and unpredictability make him one of Barcelona's most important disruptors.

This season, apart from the match in Paris, every time he has come off the bench, his individual dribbling has made opponents nervous. He is likely the fastest player in this Clásico, and if he comes on in the second half, he could easily punish his direct opponent and change the course of the game.

Espi or Endrick? The Last Card

He joined the team to be a specialized weapon, and he's proving it with his performances. Espi has scored 3 goals in just 37 minutes for Real Madrid this season, which is one goal every 12.3 minutes.

His profile usually makes an impact in these types of games, where victory sometimes hinges on small details. Espi doesn't need much time, or even prolonged involvement in the match, to inflict damage with his goals. His finishing ability and off-the-ball movement are strong weapons.

Journalist and author of "Lamine Universe," Albert Blaya, acknowledged Espi's danger but also pointed to another dark horse who could decide the match: "Endrick might also be one of the underrated players."

"He's not very reliable as a winger, loses the ball a lot, and is tactically quite poor. But if he comes off the bench, and the game is still open, he might decide the outcome. He's the type of player who can punish spaces in the middle and has very strong shooting ability, excelling at running in behind. I think Barcelona will focus a lot of attention on Diomande's side, and Endrick might make an impact in the center."

Jesus, Clarity and Threat Against Real Madrid

He will be a substitute, but he already knows how to hurt Real Madrid: he has faced Real Madrid four times, all in the Champions League for Man City. Jesus has been crucial every time, contributing 3 goals and 1 assist, with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss.

However, aside from the statistics, Jesus's characteristics are also important for Barcelona, who have lost Olmo. The Brazilian, like an attacking midfielder, is an excellent link-up player: he can provide clarity in the final 30 meters. Jesus can not only finish attacks but also orchestrate them.

The "Cucurella Effect" on Diomande

The outcome of the match will largely depend on his performance. His task is the most difficult: to mark Yamal, a player he is very familiar with from the national team.

His intensity and determination will be tested against a world-class talent. However, Real Madrid might also find an offensive solution: if they exploit Yamal's inconsistent defensive tracking back and combine with Diomande, they could create numerical superiority.

Without Vinicius, Diomande will be one of the keys to the game: his dribbling and speed will test Espart, who will undergo two high-intensity tests within a few days.
