Steve Archibald gives Valencia energy

Valencia's latest sponsor comes from an unexpected source in the form of Steve Archibald, who once had the impossible task of replacing Diego Maradona at Barcelona in 1984.

Archibald had shone for Tottenham as they won the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup and Terry Venables looked to him to fill the gap of Maradona's goals.

The Scottish striker scored 15 times in his first season and won the league in the process, and was pivotal in the European Cup the following year despite an injury hit season.

He was ostracised in his third season as Venables preferred his new signings, Gary Lineker and Mark Hughes, and he left after three years at the club.

Now, he will be in Valencia colours as president of Energia Valencianista, a company which provides solar and natural gas energy as part of the FC Energia group.

"We've created a unique union to help all of those who believe the club's colours and values are to live in a sustainable way," Archibald said of the new sponsorship.
