On the final matchday of the UEFA Champions League league phase, Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored in stoppage time, securing a 4-2 home win over Real Madrid. Benfica edged Marseille by one goal on goal difference to finish 24th and qualify for the knockout play-offs.

According to Opta statistics, Trubin, the hero of the dramatic late winner, has become the fifth goalkeeper to score in Champions League history. The previous four are Ivan Provedel of Lazio (2023–24), Vincent Enyeama of Hapoel Tel Aviv (2010–11), Sinan Bolat of Standard Liège (2009–10), and Hans-Jörg Butt, who found the net for Hamburger SV (2000–01), Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2001–02) and Bayern Munich (2008–09) respectively.
