After finalizing his new contract with FC Barcelona on May 27, which extends until June 2031, Lamine Yamal will return this afternoon to the offices at Spotify Camp Nou for a repeat of the signing ceremony—this time joined by his entire family.
At the original signing, two key figures in the young forward’s life—his grandmother Fátima and his brother Keyne—were absent, making this follow-up event especially meaningful.
Although Yamal’s new contract officially took effect this past Sunday—coinciding with his 18th birthday and making him one of the highest-paid players in the squad due to his significant impact despite his youth—the symbolic photo with the "2031" jersey alongside club president Joan Laporta will be taken today for the first time.
The event is scheduled for the afternoon, as Yamal will first train with his teammates in the morning at Ciutat Esportiva during the fourth session of the week, following Monday’s workout and Tuesday’s double session.
The major highlight of today’s ceremony will be the official confirmation that Lamine Yamal will wear the number 10 shirt this coming season, following Ansu Fati’s departure on loan to AS Monaco.
Ahead of preseason, Lamine had already hinted at this move on Instagram by posting photos on various days of legendary Barça number 10s—Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Messi. One iconic image featured a young Yamal as a baby being bathed by Lionel Messi, a symbolic nod to his inheritance of the shirt.
Although today’s event will be private, with the presence of his family, president Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco among others, Yamal will share his first comments about the renewal with the club’s official media.
FC Barcelona is also working on a plan for the young forward to speak briefly with selected members of the press who regularly cover the club. If it goes ahead, it will not be a traditional press conference, but the setting would still represent a departure from the club’s usual practices.
By securing Lamine Yamal’s renewal, Barça ensures the long-term presence of its rising star for at least the next six years.
