The proposed sale of Chelsea to Todd Boehly's consortium is reportedly expected to be completed by the end of the week.
There had been fears that a takeover would fall through because of delays caused by the £1.6bn debt owed by Chelsea's parent, Fordstam Ltd, to Jersey-registered Camberley International Investments, a company with suspected links to Roman Abramovich.
The Guardian have now reported that the sale looks 'increasingly likely' to be completed this week.
It's said that the government is now optimistic that Abramovich's loan to the club will not go to the Russian oligarch or his family.
There is growing confidence that Abramovich will agree to 'legally binding guarantees' that would allow the money to be placed in a frozen account which will be placed under government control.
A consortium led by US investor Boehly had provisionally agreed terms on a £4.25bn takeover to end the Abramovich era - after the Russian was forced to sell the club following his country's invasion of Ukraine.
Sanctions placed against Abramovich meant that the club could not sell match-day tickets towards the end of the season, with only season-ticket holders able to attend games.
Chelsea were given a special operating license though which expires on May 31 - and they will need government approval for the sale to be given the green light.
The report states that a two-stage process has been proposed in which £2.5bn from the sale to Boehly's group would go into an escrow account, where it would be held until the government are happy that the funds will go to a charity for victims of the war in Ukraine.
It would likely be created after the sale has been officially been completed and there have been assurances that the foundation will be independent from Abramovich.
May 31 is also the final day for the club to be registered for European competitions next season, while the Premier League will meet in early June to grant clubs the licenses required to play next season.'
Despite concerns over whether the takeover will be completed, Boehly has been in attendance in a number of Chelsea matches towards the end of the season, including their FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
Tuchel joked after Chelsea's draw with Leicester on Thursday that Boehly must be banned from watching games at Stamford Bridge, having failed to see them win on three occasions.
‘Was he here again? Well that is a clear sign,’ Tuchel said following the Leicester draw. ‘He will be watching on ESPN from Los Angeles next season, that is clear. It is already clear it has to be like this. And he was at the final at Wembley.’
Boehly attended again on Sunday, where Chelsea did pick up a 2-1 victory over Watford.
Chelsea Women's manager Emma Hayes revealed Boehly made his first contact on a visit to their Cobham training ground – and believes he is a 'perfect fit' for the club after having lunch with the American on Friday.
'I had lunch with Todd,' Hayes revealed. 'He watched the girls train, I had a really lovely couple of hours with him.
'[He was] delightful, really passionate, he's just a normal down to earth guy, really passionate about Chelsea, he loves Chelsea.
'He's ambitious, as we are, and it's a perfect fit. I saw him at one of the games he went to at Stamford Bridge but he was upstairs and I was downstairs!'
