According to ESPN, Torreira discussed Uruguay's elimination from the FIFA World Cup.

Torreira, who plays for Galatasaray, addressed Uruguay's elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, directly pointing to head coach Marcelo Bielsa and citing poor relations between the coach and the team. In an interview with Canal 10's "Punto Penal," he stated: "He stood his ground and wanted to bring the best to Uruguay, but it didn't work out with us. You have to understand that we are a small country with a big heart, and when you come here with certain situations, it's hard to accept. Many of his methods were unpopular."

Torreira had limited playing time under Bielsa with the national team, and he also discussed his interactions with the coach. He said: "I can say this because I experienced it firsthand. I was with the team for a short time, and my contact with him was minimal. Everything was difficult, and I couldn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. It's a shame, because everyone had high expectations at first, but everything that happened afterward was heartbreaking. I had teammates who weren't doing well, and he brought instability to the FIFA World Cup campaign."

Regarding Uruguay's overall performance in the tournament, Torreira expressed sadness about the team's early exit. He said: "Most people thought we would be playing until the final match to determine the group winner, and everyone hoped Uruguay would advance from the group. Of course, I don't know many details because I wasn't part of the team, and I didn't want to keep in touch with anyone because I don't like to bother people. We've been eliminated in the group stage in two consecutive FIFA World Cups. However, I prefer to remain respectful because I'm sure my teammates are very sad, and those guys must have been devastated."

Speaking about Muslera and Nández, Torreira said he has always stayed in touch with Muslera because he greatly admires and likes his former Galatasaray teammate, especially considering what he experienced in this FIFA World Cup and his age. Torreira said: "I've always kept in touch with Fernando because I admire and like him very much, especially given what he went through in this FIFA World Cup and his age. Anyone who knows him knows he will handle this situation well, even though it's difficult."

He also discussed Bielsa's decision to leave out Nández, who had been a key player for much of the qualifying cycle. Torreira said: "This surprised most people. Nández is a key player and a very important figure. We played together in almost all the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and I hope they can explain it clearly one day."

Finally, Torreira discussed the future of the Uruguayan national team and expressed his hope of taking part in the next stage of the team's rebuild. He said: "Now is the time to rethink many things, to find a coach who understands how to adapt to our country, our history, and our players, and to restart the campaign. This must serve as experience and lessons for the future to avoid making the same mistakes again. I hope to be part of it in the future. I need to feel the desire to wear this jersey again."
