Kieran Trippier has vowed to learn fluent Spanish and revealed he is taking lessons five days a week in a bid to settle in as quickly as possible at his new club Atletico Madrid.

The 28-year-old fulfilled a long-term ambition to play abroad when he sealed his £20million move from Tottenham to the La Liga giants earlier this summer.

Trippier, who has made a bright start to his Atletico career, playing in all of their four consecutive pre-season victories, has set a goal of learning Spanish and has lifted the lid on the lengths he's going to in effort to grasp the language.

He told ESPN: 'My priority is to speak Spanish. I want to be involved with the players and the coach to understand more.

'I've got a teacher in Madrid and it's five days a week for two hours a day so maybe in a month or two, we can have this interview speaking Spanish.

'There were a few clubs interested in me but when Atletico Madrid came in for me, it was a great experience to play out in Spain in La Liga.

'It's something that I've always wanted to do, to play abroad and I'm absolutely delighted to be here.'

The England international put in an impressive shift on Wednesday night as Ateltico Madrid put an MLS All-Star side to the sword in Florida.

Goals from Marcos Llorente, Joao Felix and Diego Costa sealed a comprehensive 3-0 win for the Spaniards.

Trippier endured a tough campaign last term but insists he is determined to improve next season.

He told BBC Sport: 'I'm happy it's gone. I'm happy to talk about it if people want to - but I'm delighted it's over,.

'There's no excuse for what happened last season. Some things happened - nothing bad, it was just injuries and hearing things like I won't be there next season in the media.

'It was in the back of my mind: "Did they want me?" It was important to know - that's why I sat down with the manager [Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs boss] in pre-season and asked the question.

'I feel fit and ready for a new challenge, a new chapter for me and my family - and I'm raring to go now.'
