Valencia appeared to jokingly mock former manager Gary Neville after responding to a fan's demand that they follow back or the Sky Sports pundit would take over again.
The La Liga club replied 'You've got a new follower' to the tweet, but added the clarification that they were fully behind current boss Marcelino.
Neville endured a difficult spell at Valencia in what was his first role as manager of a senior club side.
He was appointed on December 3 2015, but earned just 14 points from 16 league games, and when he left on March 30 1995, Valencia were six points above La Liga relegation zone.
The former Manchester United defender also oversaw a humiliating 7-0 defeat by Barcelona, as well as a Europa League last-16 exit to La Liga rivals Athletic Bilbao.
Neville had previously been assistant coach of England under Roy Hodgson, but since returned to his role as pundit for Sky Sports, while brother Phil is manager of England Women's team.
