Villarreal confirm signing of promising young striker from Uruguay

Villarreal have snapped up 20-year-old Uruguayan promise Andres Ferrari on a five-year deal from Defensor Sporting in Montevideo. He arrives on a five-year deal and is expected to spend next season with Villarreal B.

So far he has 10 goals and 2 assists in 28 games for Defensor’s first team, while he has 5 goals in 11 under-20 caps for the Celeste too.

The fee is thought to be around €2.5m for 80% of his rights. Ferrari will join the club in July. Reasonably sized and with decent strike, Ferrari has obvious finishing skills to call on, but also links up well with his teammates. He is able to hold off defenders and slip the ball off to onrushing midfielders. Ferrari notched four goals in Defensor’s run to the Uruguayan Cup last year, despite only making his debut last year too.

He told the Villarreal club media that he is a hard-working player willing to make sacrifices, highlighting the fact he used to take two buses to get to training as a youngster.
