Villarreal's Arnaut Danjuma unveils that Liverpool are 'following him closely as a transfer target'

Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma revealed he has been 'informed' of Liverpool's interest in signing him this summer.

The Dutch international enjoyed a successful debut season in Spain, scoring 16 and assisting four in all competitions.

And according to Danjuma, his performances this campaign have attracted the attention of Champions League finalists Liverpool, who beat Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the competition.

The ex-Bournemouth star also admitted he would 'consider' leaving Villarreal if a big move presented itself.

Danjuma told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport: 'I was informed that Liverpool were following me closely.

'I have never had contacts with clubs or anything like that during the season - I always know about the situation after the season.

'I will never lie and I think it’s a bad quality if you are not ambitious.

'If a club came along that offered me a higher platform to play on sport-wise, I would always have to consider it.'

Danjuma has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United, who are keeping tabs on him ahead of Erik ten Hag's first transfer window at Old Trafford.

A swoop for his signature was initially thought unlikely considering Ten Hag's wealth of attacking options on the left side of attack, but news of Liverpool interest could tempt the Red Devils to step up a pursuit of Danjuma.

There is speculation at Liverpool surrounding the long-term future of winger Sadio Mane, who has been linked in particular with a move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Danjuma's positional freedom at Villarreal this season could provide evidence as to why Liverpool are reportedly interested in him.

The 25-year-old operated as a left winger eight times for Villarreal this season, whilst 18 of his appearances came at the centre-forward position.

Jurgen Klopp's tendency to rotate the front three and deploy his attackers in fluid, free-flowing roles could suit the Dutchman if he made a switch to Anfield.
