Vinicius celebrates the return of the Real Madrid player he calls “the general”

No surprises in Real Madrid’s training session this morning. Kylian Mbappé and Franco Mastantuono trained normally, while Mendy once again took to the training pitch with the team after his long injury layoff.

After his fifth session with the group, he’ll be available to face Getafe. 176 days later, Ferland Mendy is back. Vinicius celebrated his return enthusiastically on social media: “The general is back. My brother!” wrote the Brazilian alongside a photo of the two of them together.

The absences — already known for days — remain the same. No changes. Dani Ceballos was the latest to join Real Madrid’s injury list: he hasn’t trained since last Wednesday due to a muscle strain in his left hamstring suffered during a training match against Castilla.

The midfielder is joined by Dean Huijsen (expected to be fit for El Clásico, though not guaranteed), Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Carvajal, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. With so many absences, particularly at right-back, it looks like Fede Valverde will once again be asked to cover the flank. The possibility of Asencio playing there is practically ruled out — Xabi will need him alongside Militão in central defence against Getafe.

On the bright side, there’s good news regarding Mbappé and Mastantuono. The Frenchman’s ankle issues — which kept him out of France’s game against Iceland — are now behind him, and the Argentine’s muscle strain — which forced him to return early from international duty with the Albiceleste — has also fully healed.

Three youth players trained with the first team: Sergio Mestre, Thiago Pitarch, and Álvaro González. Real Madrid’s next match is against Getafe CF on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 3:00 PM ET in LaLiga.
