Captain Gareth Bale says he is 'delighted' with their 2-0 Euro 2020 group stage win over Turkey as he hailed the impact of Wales fans in Baku.

Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Connor Roberts secured Wales the win on Wednesday night and added to their hard-earned point against Switzerland on Saturday.

Despite being happy for the team, Bale admitted he was disappointed by the fact he blazed his penalty over the bar.

Bale was awarded a penalty by referee Artur Dias in the second half after Zeki Celik took him down inside the box.

However, the Welshman fired his penalty over the bar following a staggered run-up.

As a result, Bale became the first player to miss the goal frame entirely with a penalty at the Euro's since Raul for Spain against France in 2000, according to OPTA.

Nevertheless, the Wales captain was impressed with his team's performance and credited Aaron Ramsey for his link-up play.

Speaking after the game, Bale said: 'I'm absolutely delighted with the win, we fought hard, worked our socks off, yes I missed a penalty but I feel I showed good character to keep going.

'That second goal at the end was the icing on the cake.'

'Aaron [Ramsey] got in a few times, we've always linked up well, it was important to get the victory today.'

Bale also said that he was grateful for the Welsh fans, who were outnumbered by expectant Turkey supporters, and that they help get their 'adrenaline going'.

He said: 'Playing in front of no fans is difficult, the fans were fantastic, I know most were Turkish but the Welsh fans were great too. It helped get your adrenaline going.

'We want to thank the fans at home too who I'm sure will be cheering in their millions.'

The result puts Wales on the brink of reaching the knockout stages, easing the pressure on Bale's side heading into their final group game against Italy on Sunday.

Bale said: 'You'd like to think that [four points] would be enough, we will have to wait and see, if you'd offered us four points at the start we would have bitten your hand off.'
