As the world continues to watch on in terror as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues into its third day, Atletico Madrid have elected to light up their Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, in order to show support for the war-stricken nation.
Alongside the colours, there was also the message 'Stop War' displayed on the outside walls of the stadium, as Los Rojiblancos made clear their opposition to Russia's actions.
There has been widespread condemnation in sport for Vladimir Putin and his invasion of Ukraine, with a number of players showing shirts and messages in support of Ukraine during the midweek European fixtures.
Diego Simeone was asked for his opinion on the ongoing crisis during his pre-match press conference, in which he made clear his profound sadness at developments this week.
"We need peace, we want peace," Simeone declared.
"We feel a lot of sadness because it's difficult to understand that at the moment we are living in distant times of war.
"We all fight to have peace in the world."
