The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 are to take place in Paris on Monday, 27 February 2023, with Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappé up for The Best Men’s Player.
FIFA will hold its annual ‘The Best’ event to honor football players and coaches this Monday. Last year’s winner was Robert Lewandowski, who defeated Lionel Messi in consecutive years. However, this year’s award is heavily disputed due to the World Cup held in the course of the year.
In contrast to the Ballon d’Or, which altered its format this year, ‘The Best’ is awarded for the natural year rather than the tournament year. That is, it is awarded from January to December, as opposed to the French trophy, which is awarded from September to June. Being more equitable to those players who win the large tournaments throughout the year.
Last year, Benzema won the Champions League. However, since the title was not presented in the months after the tournament’s conclusion, he now competes for ‘The Best’ award with Lionel Messi, who had a relatively poor 2021-2022 season but ended up winning the World Cup with Argentina, giving him a great chance of bringing home the trophy.

The award was created by Croatian artist Ana Barbic Katicic and is inspired by the ball of the first World Cup final between Argentina and Uruguay. The ball is crowned on the top of the trophy’s body and is made up full of Platinum.
‘The Best’ measures 310 millimeters and weighs 6.4 kilograms. It also consists of five parts: the lower part, the base, a piece of carbon on the base, the body, and the ball.
