Why isn’t Lamine Yamal playing for Barcelona against Sevilla today in LaLiga?

Lamine Yamal is not in the Barcelona squad for Sunday’s game away to Sevilla due to a pubic injury that has troubled him for several weeks and could keep him sidelined for several more.

How did Lamine Yamal get injured?

The teenage winger sustained the problem during the September international break, with Barça head coach Hansi Flick openly voicing his frustration at Spain counterpart Luis de la Fuente’s handling of the situation.

Yamal subsequently missed four club fixtures before returning as a substitute in the 2-1 home victory over Real Sociedad last weekend. He then played the full 90 minutes of the midweek Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, after which it was revealed he had suffered a recurrence of the same injury.

“The discomfort in the pubic area that player Lamine Yamal has been experiencing has reappeared after the match against PSG. He will be out for the Sevilla game, and the estimated recovery time is 2-3 weeks,” Barcelona posted on X.

Flick unsure on El Clásico return

Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s trip to Sevilla, Flick admitted he was unsure when Yamal would be fit to return, casting doubt on his availability for the first Clásico of the season against Real Madrid on October 26.

“We don’t know when he’ll be back,” Flick explained. “This isn’t a muscle injury. It could be two weeks, three weeks, maybe four. I don’t know if he’ll be ready for El Clásico. We’ll have to take it step by step with the recovery team and see how he evolves.”

Yamal’s bright start to the season

Yamal, who finished second to PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé in the 2025 Ballon d’Or, started the season strongly. He scored twice and provided three assists in his first three matches and has six goal contributions (two goals and four assists) in four LaLiga fixtures so far.
