Barcelona manager Xavi is set for crunch talks with Holland star Memphis Depay with the forward reportedly wanting a move away from the Catalan club.

Depay is said to have reached an agreement with La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, with his current club presently 'reluctant to let him go.'

On Wednesday, Xavi revealed he will be speaking to Memphis to directly assess the situation.

'I'm going to speak with Memphis Depay today to see if he wants to leave or not, to see what he wants to do,' Xavi said during his press conference.

'I count on Memphis for everything. Of course, it's not an easy situation when you don't play.'

The Holland international has struggled this season, making just four appearances and scoring one goal across 206 total minutes.

A mixture of injuries and form concerns have ruined his 2022-23 season so far. Most notably, a thigh problem kept him out for the entirety of October and into  November.

Since returning from the World Cup, he was an unused substitute in four of Barcelona's five games - including a 1-0 win over his next potential destination, Atletico Madrid.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Memphis could be set for a switch to Atleti after he and Diego Simeone's side agreed terms on a deal thought to extend to the summer of 2025.

However the report also adds that Barca will be reluctant to let Memphis leave on a free transfer, notwithstanding him being out of favour they still want to negotiate a fee.

Memphis currently has six months left of his Nou Camp deal before he is free to individually negotiate a summer move.

Barca though are keen to test the resolve of their Spanish league rivals by demanding Yannick Carrasco in return.
