Zidane: I may be a lucky coach and I've been fortunate in my life

Real Madrid have just won the Supercopa de Espana to make it nine wins from nine in finals for Zinedine Zidane, who has admitted that he may be a lucky coach.

It was put to Zidane in Friday's press conference that he has had a lot of luck as coach, compared to when he displayed magic as a player, and the coach partly accepted that statement.

"That is what you think," he started in response to that question.

"I accept I may be lucky, I have been fortunate in life.

"I have to be grateful and work for this.

"If you think that I'm lucky then that's fine, no problem."

He went on to explain that his focus is fully on Sevilla and that he won't be dwelling on the Supercopa de Espana victory.

"Nothing changes just because we won the Supercopa de Espana," he said.

"We know the season is very long.

"It could be difficult in this match, but we want to keep doing what we're doing.

"We know we're going to play against one of the best teams in the league and we have to be prepared to play a great game."

Sevilla could give Real Madrid a guard of honour for their Supercopa de Espana success, but Zidane doesn't want this to affect his players' mindset as they go into the game.

"Each club has their customs, if they do a guard of honour then we'll accept it," he said.

"Whether they do a guard of honour or not, they're going to be thinking about playing a game of football.

"We also have to think about the same and not think about what might happen before the game."

It will be a return for Julen Lopetegui and Zidane hopes the Real Madrid fans give him a warm welcome.

"I can't give you explanations [for what went wrong at Real Madrid for Lopetegui]," the coach said.

"In each moment you have to do what you have to do.

"He's a great coach and has shown it always.

"I don't want to talk about his time at Real Madrid, but I can say he is a very good coach.

"I hope the fans receive him well, especially because he was a player for this club.

"The fans always welcome their people in a good way and I hope that this is what happens."

Finally, Zidane was asked about the decision to play Real Madrid's Copa del Rey game next week at the tiny stadium of their opponents Unionistas de Salamanca.

"It won't change anything," he said.

"We'll have to play the match there at their stadium.

"That's not what we're worrying about right now, as our focus right now is on Sevilla."

Zidane was also asked about the futures of Brahim and Mariano and about Iker Casillas' reported run for the RFEF presidency, but he didn't want to get into those issues.
