Ajax centre-back Maximilan Wober is closing in on a move to Sevilla for a fee between 10 and 12 million euros.
The club's sporting director, Joaquin Caparros, has hinted that he will attempt to sign Alvaro Morata from Chelsea as they look to add a forward of the highest quality, though they are also strengthening in other areas.
The centre-back position is an important area to for Sevilla to add another body and MARCA sources have confirmed that the Austrian defender is set for a move to Pablo Machin's side.
They had hoped to lure Manchester United's Eric Bailly but the high costs involved have resulted in the Nervion outfit looking elsewhere.
Now in his second season with the Dutch giants, Wober has established himself as a real talent.
Despite not being a regular starter, the 20-year-old has been cover for Matthijs de Ligt and Daley Blind, and he has still played in four Champions League games.
Three of those have been as a starter, while he has also played eight games in the league and started half of those.
Ajax signed Wober from Rapid Vienna a year-and-a-half ago and in that time, he has made his debut with the Austrian national team.
Wober is a tall centre-back and is very strong, despite his young age.
He is left-footed and one of the brightest defensive prospects, which is why Sevilla have taken such an interest in him.
His starting price is in the region of 10 to 12 million euros and Sevilla want to take advantage of the market before the potential departures of De Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, two of the team's biggest stars, which could complicate the deal if they left it until the summer.
As was the case with Joris Gnagnon, it is a bet on another young central defender by the Andalusian club, who have both present and future needs in mind.
