AC Milan are on the verge of signing veteran striker Mario Mandzukic on a free transfer, according to reports.

The 34-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Al Duhail last July but several Italian publications have now claimed he is close to moving to the San Siro.

Calciomercato have even gone as far as suggesting that negotiations have already been wrapped up and believe Mandzukic will officially sign by Tuesday.

It is thought that an 18-month deal has been agreed - although the intricacies over the length of the terms are still unclear.

Mandzukic may sign for an initial six months, until the end of the season, and then take up an option to extend for another campaign.

The alternative is the target man putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract immediately.

Club directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have reportedly stalled over the deal, however, with Mandzukic only emerging as a target at the start of the week.

A host of clubs expressed interest in snapping up Mandzukic after his deal in Qatar was terminated early.

Aston Villa, West Ham and Celta Vigo all appear to have now lost out, though, with a return to Italy beckoning.

Mandzukic played for Juventus between 2015 and 2019, scoring 44 goals in 162 games in all competitions.

The experienced star is said to have waited for an attractive offer before taking the next step in his nomadic career  - and looks set to head to Milan in the coming days.
